Ministry of Health of Armenia Recognized by UN
During a meeting of the inter-agency working group of the UN General Assembly, it was announced that the Ministry of Health is a Laureate of the UN's inter-agency working group on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) for the year 2020. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Armenia.
The award took into account Armenia's achievements in combating NCDs, including the implementation of policies aimed at reducing the adverse effects associated with the use of tobacco products and their substitutes, as well as mitigating the harmful consequences of tobacco smoke.
The Ministry of Health has made significant efforts to combat the growing burden of NCDs with a systematic approach. The Government of the Republic of Armenia has developed a series of strategic measures and legislative changes to effectively combat NCDs. Screening programs, the stent for life initiative, and programs for acute and subacute ischemic strokes have been introduced, and the law on “Reducing and Preventing Health Damage Resulting from the Use of Tobacco Products and Their Replacements” has been adopted.
It is noteworthy that in recent years, studies such as “Arguments Supporting Investments in the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases” and “The Prevalence of NCD Risk Factors in the Republic of Armenia” (STEPS) have been conducted, which have served as a foundation for the implementation of this policy.
