“I am not aware of such an agreement and I do not believe that such an agreement has existed.” This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, in a conversation with reporters following an expanded meeting of the Board of the Civil Contract party, referring to the reports regarding the agreement with the authorities for Ervand Khundkaryan to be nominated as the President of the Constitutional Court.

“I saw Tovmasyan's press conference, where he said he sees problems related to the legitimacy of the newly elected judges. Generalizing Mr. Tovmasyan's interview, I can say that he did not see a lack of legitimacy in the case of Serzh Sargsyan, nor did he see it during the parliamentary elections when he himself was elected as a member of the National Assembly, so commenting on him is an ungrateful task because he is a person with vested interests, involved in politics. It would be appropriate for him to resign and step aside because his image has become tiresome not only in the political arena but also among the public,” said Simonian.

In response to whether Ervand Khundkaryan's election would satisfy the authorities' views on the Constitutional Court, Alen Simonian quoted Prime Minister Pashinyan, asking whether this is the Constitutional Court they dreamed of, certainly not. However, according to Simonian, we must consider several factors and understand that we cannot satisfy all interested parties and must look from the perspective of state interests.

“I believe that the decision made by the National Assembly after intense discussions should be taken into account,” said Alen Simonian.
