«This is not Azerbaijan for you»: French mayor threatened over Artsakh flag
The mayor of Bourg-lès-Valence, France, Marlene Mugien, has addressed the threats directed at her over raising the Artsakh flag in a post on her Facebook page.
She recounted that on August 25, three Azerbaijanis stormed the city hall and demanded the removal of the Artsakh flag from the display of sister city flags. The situation escalated to the point where the Azerbaijani ambassador in Paris called Mugien's deputy, issuing further threats regarding the removal of the flag.
"This is not Azerbaijan for you, and you will not decide what laws or regulations exist here. No one can decide for us whom we can contact and whom we cannot. Azerbaijan, Aliyev, and their allies must understand that friendship cannot be nullified or revoked; our people respect and appreciate the residents of Shushi and the entire Artsakh," the mayor stated.
Mugien further added that in Bourg-lès-Valence, the Artsakh flag symbolizes friendship with a nation that Azerbaijan threatens to annihilate every day.
