Video: Protesters Dispersed in Central Minsk, at Least 10 Detained
After Alexander Lukashenko's inauguration, protests have erupted in central Minsk. Riot police have employed tear gas near the 'Galeria' shopping center as participants of the protest attempted to free a detained demonstrator. At this moment, at least 10 people have been arrested, according to Natalia Ganusevich, an official representative of the Minsk city executive committee.
It was reported earlier that in response to calls for protests from the Belarusian opposition following President Alexander Lukashenko's swearing-in ceremony, the police have heightened their alertness.
In addition to the protesters, supporters of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have also taken to the streets of Minsk. Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko officially assumed the presidency of Belarus. According to Belarusian media reports, he placed his right hand on the Constitution and took an oath in Belarusian before signing the oath text.
