Robert Kocharyan's Lawyer Haik Alumyanyan Requests to Add 126 Individuals to the Witness List
The legal team of Robert Kocharyan has announced that Haik Alumyanyan, the former president's lawyer, has requested a modification of the witness list to include an additional 126 individuals.
According to Alumyanyan, in this criminal case, the prosecution has involved a total of 984 individuals as witnesses, with 872 categorized as witnesses, 102 as victims, and 10 as successors of the victims. The 102 individuals, along with the additional 126, have all been recognized as victims in the same central case pertaining to March 1, yet the latter group was not included in the witness list.
The court decided to summon only the initial 102 individuals without any discussion or explanation. Alumyanyan emphasized that every accused person has the right to summon their witnesses to court and question them under the same conditions that apply to the witnesses who provided testimony against them.
In light of this, the defense attorney has proposed that the 126 identified victims be summoned to court and questioned. He pointed out that most of these individuals are police officers, each of whom suffered some injury and possesses specific information regarding the events of March 1.
"We demand to uphold the equality of the parties involved and to apply the same approach to the defense as is used for the prosecution," Alumyanyan stated.
He also reminded that the witness list proposed by the prosecution is not imperative and the judge is not obliged to comply with the request to summon those individuals. The resolution of this request has also been postponed until all evidence in the case has been reviewed.
The next court session is scheduled for September 29 at 13:00.
