EU Imposes Sanctions on Turkish Maritime Transport Company
The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has imposed sanctions on three maritime transport companies for violating the arms embargo on Libya. One of the companies is Turkish, while the others belong to Jordan and Kazakhstan. This was announced by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, as reported by Ermenihaber.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the decision of the European Parliament's committee, stating that this decision holds no significance for Ankara. Furthermore, the statement accused the European Union of bias.
According to the Turkish side, the supply of arms to the Government of National Accord led by Fayez al-Sarraj, one of the parties vying for power in Libya, is legal as it is recognized by the United Nations.
Turkey has accused the EU of turning a blind eye to the shipping of arms and ammunition to the other side in the Libyan conflict, represented by General Khalifa Haftar's National Army and Parliament, by the United Arab Emirates and other countries.
