Two Employees of the ‘Children’s House’ Organization Arrested for Inflicting Severe Physical Pain on Minors

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has made disclosures following extensive investigative actions and operational measures conducted jointly with the police in relation to a criminal case being examined by the Central and Norq-Marash administrative divisions of the Yerevan Investigative Department. It has come to light that employees of the ‘Children’s House’ were allegedly involved in physical abuse and a pattern of severe maltreatment towards the minors residing at the facility.

On September 18, 2020, a criminal case was initiated by the Central Division of the Yerevan Police Department under Article 119 (causing severe physical pain or mental suffering) of the Armenian Criminal Code. This case was promptly forwarded to the Investigative Committee's Yerevan Investigative Department for further proceedings.

During the pretrial investigation, several investigative actions took place, including interrogations. Two employees of the organization have been arrested on suspicion of inflicting severe physical pain or mental suffering on the minors and have been questioned regarding the incidents.

To clarify significant circumstances related to the criminal case, forensic examinations have been appointed. The pretrial investigation is ongoing, with necessary investigative and procedural actions being undertaken to ascertain all circumstances of the case and ensure an objective, comprehensive, and multifaceted examination.
