Investigation Underway to Clarify Circumstances of 30-Year-Old Woman's Death at Shengavit Medical Center
On September 18, 2020, at 10:20 AM, the Shengavit Medical Center reported to the Shiraz Police Department of Armenia that a 30-year-old woman, admitted with complicated gynecological, somatic, and obstetric histories, had died during the latent phase of labor in her 41st week of pregnancy, according to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
On the same day, at 10:30 AM, a report about the woman’s death was also received from a relative.
Considering the available materials, there were legal grounds and reasons to initiate a criminal case. On September 18, 2020, a criminal case was opened at the Shengavit Police Department under Article 130, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (failure to fulfill or improper fulfillment of professional duties by medical personnel).
The case has been transferred to the Shengavit Administrative District Investigation Department of the Yerevan Investigative Committee for further inquiry.
A forensic examination has been ordered to determine the cause of death, and an investigation is ongoing. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident and to ensure an objective, complete, and comprehensive investigation.
