Discussion on Restoring Armenian Meat and Meat Product Exports to Russia
Negotiations have been held regarding the lifting of the ban on the import of meat and meat products from the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation during a video conference between the State Service for Food Safety of Armenia and representatives of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) of Russia. This was reported by the information and public relations department of the State Service for Food Safety, which is under the Government.
It should be noted that the import of Armenian meat and meat products to Russia was halted in 2016 due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in cattle in Armenia. Representatives from the Food Safety Service emphasized that in recent years, the state has taken active measures and actions to combat this disease. Laboratory capabilities have been developed and improved, modern quality vaccines have been used, and regular veterinary epidemiological monitoring has been conducted.
Russian partners were also informed that in 2020, a summary of the work carried out was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health, proposing to consider granting Armenia the status of a country free from foot-and-mouth disease.
As a result of the discussions, both sides agreed that in the near future, the Armenian side would send information to the Russian partners about the results of the fight against the dangerous disease, the list of areas free from foot-and-mouth disease, as well as the list of companies planned to export meat and meat products to the Russian Federation. The constructive dialogue was highly appreciated by both sides, and it was agreed to resume negotiations after the Russian side receives the necessary documents.
