Collisions Between Geely and Opel Vehicles in Chayni Bend: 1 Person Dies on the Spot, 3 Hospitalized
On September 17, around 21:00, a head-on collision occurred between Geely and Opel vehicles on the 21st kilometer of the Yerevan-Sevan highway, specifically in the Chayni bend. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan reporting from the scene, one person died on the spot, while three others suffered bodily injuries and received first aid from emergency medical teams that arrived quickly at the scene, before being transported to hospitals.
The traffic police’s second police company’s third platoon, led by platoon commander Aram Adibekyan, with the assistance of squad commander Arthur Petrosyan and platoon leader Tigran Kotanjyan, arrived at the scene promptly. An operational group from the Kotayk division of the police, headed by division chief Aram Ghazaryan, also reached the site.
Witnesses at the scene reported that two of the injured were accompanied to the hospital by the head of the Kotayk division, A. Ghazaryan. The 1-77 traffic management center’s on-duty officer, Yervand Aleksanyan, informed the Kotayk regional investigative department of the investigative committee of Armenia, from where an investigative team arrived to examine the accident site.
Additionally, a response team from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ special rescue operations center, led by commander Vahe Petrosyan of fire and rescue unit No. 17, arrived quickly. The rescuers deactivated the vehicles and cordoned off the area. The police and investigative department are working to determine the identity of the deceased, the drivers, and the injured.
