Iravunk: Gazelles and Taxis Returning to Yerevan City Center

«Iravunk» newspaper reports: “Gazelles and taxis transporting passengers from Yerevan to the regions have returned to the city center. It is worth reminding that during the tenure of the former mayor Karen Karapetyan, the entry of these vehicles into the city center and their parking there were prohibited.
These vehicles were relocated to the outskirts of Yerevan, contributing to an improvement in the traffic flow in the capital. At that time, some noise was raised, but life showed that the decision was correct. Firstly, the center was freed from various gazelles, and traffic became considerably lighter.
However, under the new government, the notion of order has become quite alien. In every sector, there needs to be uncontrollable chaos, and in this context, it is, of course, very logical that the gazelles should have returned and parked for hours in the city center.
The situation with street trade is the same. Again, during the tenure of Karen Karapetyan and later Taron Margaryan, we were free from this unpleasant phenomenon. Today, however, the sidewalks are in an unsanitary state, filled with dust, transportation emissions, and garbage. Trade is thriving amidst this. Fish, fruits, vegetables, cheese, and greens are sold side by side.
Does the Yerevan Municipality have the will and mechanisms to eliminate illegal outdoor trade? Life shows that it does not.”
