Saakashvili Accused of Revealing State Secrets in Ukraine
Another documentary film by Ukraine's Obozrevatel TV has been produced about Saakashvili's political activities in the country, making new revelations accusing him of large-scale embezzlement and even disclosing state secrets.
This is the second film showcasing Saakashvili's work in Ukraine, discussing his corrupt activities during his tenure in two key positions, which has caused disappointment among President Zelensky, who entrusted him with a position in the Reform Council, as well as among politicians and business leaders. They are convinced that during his time in office in Ukraine, he exploited his position for personal gain.
The investigative film also touches on the former Georgian president's valuable real estate in Ukraine. According to the filmmakers, during his tenure as the governor of the Odessa region, Saakashvili alienated 75 hectares of land in the historical part of Odessa, where modern high-rise residential buildings were constructed by a businessman friend. In one of these buildings, he was allocated a penthouse with a sea view and a large terrace. When this fact was revealed and became a topic of public discussion, Saakashvili alienated it to cover up the matter.
His mother, who settled in Ukraine, displayed a partially constructed villa in one of the regions to dispel suspicions, claiming she was building a house for her homeless son with her own funds.
The documentary's creators have also stated that, aside from the accusations of embezzlement, a criminal case could be launched against Saakashvili for the disclosure of state secrets in Ukraine. Former members of a volunteer special forces battalion from Odessa have accused him of revealing military secrets. During his time as governor, after visiting an anti-terrorism operation zone in Ukraine, Saakashvili returned and deliberately, or perhaps driven by vanity, disclosed military secrets by showing footage clearly depicting the locations of fighters' positions on a map in the anti-terrorism zone.
Now, as his influence in Ukraine has weakened, Saakashvili has once again redirected attention towards Georgia, where the National Movement party has promised him the position of Prime Minister if they win the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 31.
