Investigation Underway into Circumstances of Alcohol Poisoning Deaths of 10 Residents of Yerevan and Blindness of 2 Others

The Yerevan Investigative Division of the RA Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of 10 residents of Yerevan due to alcohol poisoning, as well as the cases of 2 residents who went blind, according to a statement from the information and public relations department of the RA Investigative Committee.

Five criminal cases are being investigated in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan regarding the deaths of 5 individuals due to alcohol poisoning, under Article 279, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code. Additionally, one criminal case is being examined concerning the blindness of one individual, under Article 279, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.

In the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts, 4 criminal cases are being investigated regarding the deaths of 4 individuals due to alcohol poisoning, under Article 279, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code, and one criminal case regarding the blindness of one individual, under Article 279, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.

In the Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts, one criminal case is being investigated concerning the death of one person due to alcohol poisoning, under Article 279, Part 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code.

Large-scale investigative and procedural actions are underway in these administrative districts to clarify all circumstances surrounding the deaths of 10 residents of Yerevan and the blindness of 2 residents, as well as to identify the source of the alcoholic beverage involved.

Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, and until there is a verdict of the court that has entered into legal force.
