Georgian Defense Ministry Tightens Security Measures Due to Coronavirus

The Georgian Defense Ministry has established certain regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the military. This was stated on the agency's website.

Defense Minister Irakli Garibashvili ordered on Thursday to strengthen control within the defense department and the country's armed forces. In particular, the minister mandated mandatory temperature checks at all checkpoints, compulsory mask-wearing in all enclosed spaces, and detailed instructions on safety measures for those departing on leave. There are also guidelines concerning so-called "risk zones" to avoid travel.

After returning from a hotspot of infection, personnel must enter self-isolation and subsequently be tested for coronavirus. Whenever possible, everyone is advised to switch to remote working mode.

Currently, there are 1,917 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Georgia, with 1,354 recoveries.
