Georgia No Longer a 'Green Zone'

Georgia No Longer a 'Green Zone'

Currently, there are 536 infected individuals receiving treatment in Georgia, with 17 in serious condition and 4 in critical condition. According to Aliq.ge, this information was provided by Marina Ezugbayaan, the medical director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital.

In just the last day, 87 new cases have been confirmed in Georgia. The Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital is treating 23 patients, one in serious and one in critical condition.

Ezugbayaan assesses that the large number of patients indicates the beginning of a new wave of coronavirus in the country. According to the specialist, the current situation is a result of increased domestic tourism and the neglect of safety regulations.

Moreover, a new outbreak of coronavirus is expected in Georgia in October-November. Ezugbayaan confirmed that Georgia has exited the 'green zone.'

In early July, the incidence rate was 0.7 per 100,000 people, while today it stands at 10.2. This places Georgia in the 'yellow' warning zone, where the rate is between 10 and 30 per 100,000 people. Rates above 30 classify countries and regions into the red zone.
