ASALA Member Abraham Tovmasyan Dies in Car Accident in Lebanon

On September 5, Abraham Tovmasyan, a member of the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA), died in a car accident in Lebanon. ASALA has issued a statement.

“Just two weeks after the passing of our comrade Hakob Taghlyan in Erbil, this new loss is a heavy blow to our ranks and renews our sorrow. Comrade Abraham joined the organization in the early 1980s. After receiving the necessary training at one of our military bases, he became very active in the 1980s, particularly in Europe. On January 22, 1983, he launched a group attack on the Turkish Airlines headquarters in Paris as part of the 'Shapin Garahisar' operation, for which he was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. After returning to Lebanon in the early days of 1985, he continued his struggle within the Armenian National Movement, contributing to the efforts of the ANM's Lebanon branch.

Comrade Abraham Tovmasyan was humble and dedicated, always ready to perform the toughest tasks with complete devotion. His contribution to the Armenian armed liberation struggle will keep his name shining in the history of our fight.

A memorial ceremony for Comrade Abraham will take place on September 14 at 14:00 in the Yerablur Pantheon in Yerevan. The memory of Abraham Tovmasyan will remain alive among his combat and ideological comrades. Glory to his memory!”
