Ammunition Found in the Basement of the Physical Culture Institute

On September 10, at 13:21, the National Center for Crisis Management received information that ammunition had been discovered in the basement of the "State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport" located at 17 Alek Manoukian Street, Yerevan.

According to the information and public relations department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia, an operational group from the crisis management center, a duty psychologist from the psychological support department, a canine unit from the special rescue works center, and an engineering unit from the civil defense department were dispatched to the scene.

It was revealed that while performing cleaning work in the basement of the institute, an employee noticed an object resembling a mortar shell and moved it to the yard of the building. Rescuers cordoned off the area and, in collaboration with the institute's security personnel, evacuated 14 citizens.

The engineering unit discovered a 62 mm caliber mortar shell with a live warhead and relocated it to a safe area. Rescuers conducted a sweep of both basements of the building, and no additional ammunition was found.
