We Will Have a 'Revived' Neighborhood in the Heart of Yerevan: Discussion on the Kond Neighborhood

On September 9, a meeting was held led by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan to discuss the development of the historical urban environment and tourism infrastructure of the Kond neighborhood in Yerevan. In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister stated, “The formation of this inter-agency working group is significant particularly because we will address the urban development issues of the Kond neighborhood at the state level. A comprehensive study will be conducted covering architectural heritage, economic, seismic, and other aspects. I would like to emphasize that a clear conceptual framework for the development of the Kond neighborhood will be developed, aimed at preserving the historical and urban environment and spirit of one of our capital’s oldest neighborhoods. As a result of all this, we will have a 'revived' neighborhood in the heart of Yerevan. At the same time, we anticipate a boost to the local economy and tourism, an improvement in architecture, infrastructure, and service quality, as well as job creation.

The core content of today’s discussion will relate to the competition for the new conceptual sketch project for Kond. The project was presented for discussion by interested parties, including the professional community and several individual architects. Amendments have been made based on their recommendations and observations, and the project has been refined. I would also like to inform you that after the discussion and final approval of the competition project by the working group, an open international competition will be announced to formulate a complete and uniform development concept for the Kond neighborhood.

During the meeting, various issues related to the project were discussed, and further steps were outlined. By the Deputy Prime Minister's instruction, the competition project will also be posted on the 'e-draft.am' platform for public discussion before final approval.
