Retired Colonel Sasun Hunanian has Passed Away

Retired Colonel Sasun Sureni Hunanian has passed away prematurely. This information has been reported by the official website of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.

The Ministry expresses its deepest condolences and support to Colonel S. Hunanian's relatives, combat, and service companions.

Colonel Sasun Sureni Hunanian was born on August 15, 1964, in Javakhk. In 1990, he graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. In 1992, he joined military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and was appointed as the commander of a platoon in a separate battalion. From his very first day of service, he participated in the defense battles of Armenia and Artsakh.

In 1993, he was appointed as the commander of a company in a separate battalion. In 1994, he was appointed as the deputy commander of a battalion in a military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. In 1997, he attended the Russian Ministry of Defense's "Vistrel" officer training course. In 2000, he graduated from the Russian Ministry of Defense Military Academy.

In 2001, he was appointed as the head of a division in a military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. In 2002, he became the deputy commander of a military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. In 2014, he was released from the armed forces of Armenia with the right to a pension for long service.

He was awarded the medals of “Bravery,” “For Military Service,” and “For Impeccable Service” of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degrees, as well as the “Vazgen Sargsyan,” “Garegin Nzhdeh,” “Drastamat Kanayan” medals and the “20 Years of the Armed Forces of Armenia” badge.
