City Council Approves Memorial for Victims of March 1 in Yerevan

During its meeting on September 8, the Yerevan City Council granted approval for the installation of a memorial dedicated to the victims of the events of March 1, 2008, located along the walls of the Children's Park, bordered by Zakiyan, Beirut, and St. Gregory the Illuminator streets.

The decision's rationale states: “The need for this decision is based on the necessity to preserve the memory of the victims of March 1, 2008, and to facilitate the realization and installation of a memorial dedicated to them.”

To support the project's design work, the Government of Armenia allocated 2 million drams to the Yerevan community as per decision No. 1556-N dated November 7, 2019. Albert Hrachi Vardanyan’s design has been selected as the winner of the open competition for the memorial project.

During the discussion, council members observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims of March 1.
