Action is Required: Romanos Petrosyan on Forest Issues

The Minister of Environment of Armenia, Romanos Petrosyan, writes that forest issues in Armenia are multifaceted, and their solutions are not only related to forest management but often extend beyond the forestry sector and involve energy, household economy, education, awareness, and other areas.

The Role of Armenia's Forests for Future Generations
Forests play an invaluable role not only for nature but also for human life and well-being. Forests occupy about 11% of Armenia's territory. The various forest issues in Armenia are related not only to forest management but also often intersect with energy, household economy, education, awareness, and other sectors. Developing a state strategy for forest conservation and restoration, along with an action plan, is one of the most important tasks of the country's environmental policy.

Action is required. A thousand-mile journey begins with the first step. Our steps in this area should be directed towards forest restoration, improving the current situation, harmonizing environmental and resource management activities, developing intersectoral cooperation, and pursuing a unified and coordinated policy in line with international standards at various levels.
