Signs of Life Found Among the Ruins of Beirut

Rescue teams have discovered signs of life beneath the rubble in Beirut, Lebanon, following the explosion that occurred on August 4, according to Reuters. Sensors have detected presumed heartbeats and breathing under the wreckage of a building.

An agency source reported that rescuers have resumed their operations in the area where there may be potential survivors. “Data from the equipment indicates that there is one survivor; there are heartbeats. However, the dog indicates that there is a body there. But these are assumptions. We are currently conducting search operations to verify,” said a volunteer working at the disaster site.

Previously, the World Bank assessed the damage from the Beirut explosion. Analysts estimate that the direct physical damage to the Lebanese capital is between $3.8 billion to $4.6 billion. The explosion in Beirut occurred on August 4 when a stockpile of ammonium nitrate that had been stored for a long time exploded due to a fire. About 190 people were killed, and more than 6,000 were injured, with thousands of residential buildings damaged.
