School Holidays for Students Announced

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports has approved the example educational plans for the 2020-2021 academic year for general education, specialized, and state programs. These plans also outline the holiday periods for school students.

During the academic year, students in grades 3-12 will have holidays: the autumn break from November 2 to 15, 2020, the winter break from December 28, 2020, to January 10, 2021, and no spring break is provided.

First graders will have their autumn break from November 2 to 15, 2020, the winter break from December 28, 2020, to January 24, 2021, and the spring break from March 22 to April 4, 2021.

Second graders will have their autumn break from November 2 to 15, 2020, the winter break from December 28, 2020, to January 17, 2021, and the spring break from March 22 to 28, 2021.

In case of an extraordinary situation (such as adverse weather conditions, the spread of infectious diseases, natural disasters, etc.), to ensure the continuity of education, educational institutions may conduct the basic education programs through distance learning in accordance with the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports’ order No. 09-N from May 20, 2020. In such cases, the ministry may establish additional holidays with the condition that missed hours be made up before the end of the academic lessons, and that the relevant authority under the institution's jurisdiction is notified.

The duration and timing of holidays, as well as any changes to them, in non-state educational institutions are determined by the founder, who must notify the ministry within 5 working days.
