More Than 0.5 Kg of Opium-Type Narcotics Found by the State Revenue Committee
The State Revenue Committee continues its consistent fight against the illegal transportation of narcotics and psychotropic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia. This has been announced by the SRC.
Recently, employees of the SRC's Anti-Smuggling Division and the Southern Customs Department inspected a truck operated by an Armenian citizen arriving from Iran at the Meghri customs checkpoint. As a result, more than 0.5 kg of brown mass classified as 'opium' was found in the driver's cabin, mixed with candies.
On the same day, a decision was made to conduct an operational-investigative measure called 'Controlled Supply and Purchase' in cooperation with the Anti-Smuggling Division and the Meghri Police Department. This operation aims to identify other individuals involved in the illegal circulation of narcotics, as well as to discover facts and circumstances related to the importation of these narcotics into Armenia.
As a result of the urgent operational-investigative measure taken, citizens H.G. and V.T., who received the narcotics, were detained by the Anti-Smuggling Division of Meghri, along with citizen S.A., who imported the narcotics into Armenia.
A criminal case has been initiated at the SRC's investigation department based on the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code, and citizen H.G. has been arrested. Note: The accused in a criminal offense is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
