Tigran Avinyan Visits Construction Site of New Thermal Power Plant in Yerevan

On September 2, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, along with Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan and CEO of the Italian company "Renko" Giovanni Rubini, visited the construction site of a new thermal power plant in Yerevan, which will have a capacity of 250 megawatts. This information was provided by the Deputy Prime Minister's office.

During the visit, he familiarized himself with the ongoing work, the modern equipment and technologies employed, and the safety measures in place. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the implementation of this project, valued at around 270 million USD, is an important example for potential local and international investors. He also emphasized the new power plant’s role in enhancing the country’s energy security.

Among the existing thermal power plants in Armenia, it will have the highest efficiency factor at 54 percent. The impact of the power plant on the environment will be minimized, and the cost of electricity produced will be the lowest compared to other thermal power plants.

Giovanni Rubini noted that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic having some effect on construction, work is currently progressing at full speed. He added that the progress recorded in construction works is nearly 50 percent, and there are hopes that the power plant will be operational by the autumn of 2021.

The CEO of Renko also expressed gratitude to the Armenian government for providing assistance in facilitating the entry of necessary specialists into Armenia for the construction of the power plant during the pandemic.
