Russia and Armenia Resolve Disputes Over South Caucasus Railway Operations

The transport authorities of Russia and Armenia have settled disputes concerning the operations of the South Caucasus Railway (a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways), according to a report from the Russian Ministry of Transport, as cited by RIA Novosti.

“The memorandum was signed today by Vladimir Tokarev, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation and Head of the Federal Agency for Railway Transport, and Armen Simonian, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia. Thus, all disputes related to the financial and economic activities of the subsidiary of Russian Railways, South Caucasus Railway, have been resolved,” the Russian Ministry of Transport announced.

In 2018, searches were conducted at the office of the South Caucasus Railway as part of an investigation into tax evasion. The company responded by stating that the investigation was biased. According to the RTVI television channel, seven cases have been opened against the South Caucasus Railway and are consolidated into one proceeding.

The Armenian Railway was transferred to Russian Railways under a concession agreement in 2008 for a period of 30 years.
