Henzel Mkoyan Nominated as an Independent Candidate

Today, September 2, it became known that Henzel Mkoyan, a current member of parliament from the "Georgian Dream" party, has submitted documents to the Akhalkalaki election commission to nominate himself as an independent candidate for parliament. In a telephone conversation with JNEWS, Henzel Mkoyan confirmed this information.

“Yes, it’s true, I have been nominated, it is more accurate to say that I’m in the process. I have submitted most of the documents; I only need to submit a few references tomorrow, and that will be it. I will put forward my candidacy; I know it’s a very responsible task, especially since, according to my information, there is no independent candidate in all of Georgia. The people want me to run today, and I am doing this at the request of the people. I also want this; I have been a member of parliament five times, and I want to be elected for the sixth time again,” said Henzel Mkoyan, the majoritarian MP representing Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda from the ruling party.

In the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 31 in Georgia, the "Georgian Dream" party has nominated Samvel Manukyan as its majoritarian candidate instead of Henzel Mkoyan.

It is noteworthy that Henzel Mkoyan has been a member of the Parliament of Georgia since 1999. According to Article 116, Part 9 of the Georgian Electoral Code, the nomination of a candidate by a grassroots initiative group of voters must be confirmed by at least 1% of the signatures of supporting voters registered in the respective electoral district. However, if the independent candidate is a current member of parliament, signatures are not required for their nomination.
