Avoid Using Non-Factory Produced Alcoholic Beverages, Ministry of Health Warns

In recent days, cases of alcohol poisoning have been reported across the republic. There are victims, and sadly, there have also been fatalities. The likely source of the poisoning is the consumption of non-factory produced vodka and medical alcohol.

To prevent unfortunate incidents, the Ministry of Health urges the public to refrain from using alcoholic beverages of unknown origin that are not factory produced.

Reminder: Symptoms of acute poisoning from ethyl alcohol include irritation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headaches, dizziness, confusion, diplopia, poor concentration, imbalance, drowsiness, ataxia, coma, seizures, respiratory disturbance, lowered blood pressure, slow heart rate, lowered body temperature, and hypoglycemia.

In the case of methanol, depending on the amount of toxic substances ingested, symptoms of poisoning may appear from a few hours to 1-2 days after consumption. Main symptoms include dizziness and headaches, nausea and vomiting, muscle, joint and abdominal pain, clouding of consciousness, drowsiness, photophobia, and specific effects on vision, potentially leading to blindness, as well as increased levels of hemoglobin and erythrocytes in the blood, with the presence of proteins and hyaline casts in the urine.

“In case the mentioned symptoms appear, it is necessary to seek medical attention immediately and not to engage in self-medication,” stated the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
