Armenian Foreign Ministry Condemns Azerbaijan's Degrading Treatment of Gurgen Alaverdyan
The International Committee of the Red Cross has not yet been able to establish contact with soldier Gurgen Alaverdyan. In response to a journalist's question about what steps are being taken in this direction and whether the possibility of exchanging prisoners of war is being considered, the spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Anna Naghdalyan, stated: "No meeting has taken place yet, but work is being done in this regard. The Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning the degrading treatment of Gurgen Alaverdyan by Azerbaijan, which is a gross and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. Such destructive and provocative actions by Azerbaijan and violations of international humanitarian law undermine the creation of an environment conducive to peace. There are no prisoners of war in Armenia. In Azerbaijan, fictitious charges are being made against Armenian citizens who have found themselves under Azerbaijani jurisdiction under yet unclear circumstances. Armenian citizens have not committed any crimes in Azerbaijan, and the initiation of fabricated criminal cases against them is simply a gross violation of international law."
