Council of Europe Leader Has Been Unable to Contact Lukashenko for Several Days

The Deputy Head of the European Union's Foreign Policy Service, Helga Schmidt, announced today that the EU has been unable to establish contact with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for several days, according to tass.ru.

According to her, in recent days, European Council President Charles Michel has attempted to speak with Lukashenko, but his efforts have been futile.

"The European Council leader has tried to contact Lukashenko in recent days, but he has not succeeded," she stated during an extraordinary meeting of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee dedicated to the situation in Belarus.

During the same meeting, Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya announced via video link that the presidential elections in Belarus were held with thousands of violations, and the official results were not accepted by the Belarusian people.

She also spoke about the opposition's goal of achieving new elections through peaceful dialogue. The former candidate added that the opposition is ready to propose its representatives for negotiations with the authorities.

"I declare our readiness to engage in negotiations with the authorities. We are prepared to present our negotiators," she stated.
