Members of Belarusian Opposition's Coordination Council Arrested

The Executive Director of Belarus's opposition Coordination Council, Anton Radnyankov, has announced the arrest of two members of the leadership, Olga Kovalkova and Sergey Dilevsky, by police in Minsk, as reported by RIA Novosti.

"They have indeed been arrested in the context of the administrative proceedings initiated against them," noted Minsk police spokesperson Natalya Hanushevich. She did not specify what specific violations of the law were being referred to or which article of the administrative code the case was based upon.

Meanwhile, Kovalkova's Facebook page mentions that she and Dilevsky are being accused of organizing an unauthorized rally.

"They were speaking with employees conducting a demonstration near the entrance of the MTG factory and the deputy director. Special police squad officers accused them of organizing unauthorized mass events and took them away from the scene," the message states.

It is worth noting that yesterday, according to various estimates, between 100,000 and 150,000 protesters gathered at Independence Square, from where they marched to the ‘Planet’ hotel, located near the ‘Minsk - Hero City’ monument. Hundreds of military personnel surrounded the area of the ‘Minsk - Hero City’ monument.

Protests in Minsk have continued for 14 days as citizens express their dissatisfaction with the results of the presidential elections held on August 9, in which the incumbent president was declared the winner, garnering 80 percent of the votes. In the early days of the protests, thousands of people were arrested, hundreds were injured, and 3 protesters lost their lives.
