Aunt Arrested on Suspicion of Brutal Beating of Children in Tavush

The Investigation Committee of Armenia's Tavush regional division has launched a criminal case regarding severe bodily harm inflicted on minors by a 57-year-old resident of the Khashtarak community, along with instances of causing severe physical pain and psychological suffering. It has been revealed that her 28-year-old daughter has also been regularly hitting her five minors, as well as two underage sons of her brother who live with them, using her hands, feet, a stick, and other objects, resulting in severe physical pain and psychological distress.

This information has been disclosed by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigation Committee of Armenia. A new criminal case has been initiated under the first and third points of the second part of Article 119 of the Armenian Criminal Code (causing severe physical pain or severe psychological suffering). A decision has been made to merge the two criminal cases and continue the pre-trial investigation in one process. The seven minors involved in the criminal case have been recognized as victims.

A forensic medical examination has been ordered for them, which has been assigned to the experts of the State Health Agency's “Judicial Medical Scientific Practical Center.” Several individuals have been interrogated, and a directive has been issued to the relevant department of the Armenian police for conducting operational-investigative measures. The 28-year-old resident of Khashtarak was arrested on August 20, 2020. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
