VIDEO: Amulsar. The Government Failed to Fulfill Its Promises - ELA
In December 2018, the Prime Minister told the residents of Jermuk that the future of Amulsar would be determined based on the results of an international expert examination. Those results were published by the Investigative Committee in the summer of 2019, attempting to present them with positive emphasis for Lydian. However, readers of that study did not allow the public to be misled.
On August 29, 2019, during an organized video conference, ELA experts once again confirmed that a new environmental assessment is necessary for Amulsar, as it is impossible to evaluate the real dangers based on existing documents. They were surprised that such a question had arisen in the Armenian government, as it was clearly stated in the report. They were also astonished that representatives of Lydian were participating in the video conference.
However, after all this, the Armenian government did not fulfill its promise and left the burden and responsibility for a just solution to the issue on the shoulders of Jermuk residents and conscientious citizens, despite the fact that there was a very simple solution: to annul the positive expert conclusion granted by the corrupt government of 2016 based on the results of the international study.
The unnecessary delay in resolving the issue led to a serious escalation of the situation and clashes near Amulsar and in Yerevan in July-August 2020.
