Germany Ready to Provide Medical Assistance to Alexei Navalny; France Also Offers Support to Opposition Politician's Family
Germany considers it necessary to clarify the situation surrounding Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny and is ready to provide him with medical assistance. According to TASS, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made this statement on Thursday following negotiations with French President Emmanuel Macron at the French leader's Fort Brégançon residence.
“As for France, the same applies to Germany. We are also ready to provide medical assistance in German hospitals, but a request must come from Russia,” Merkel said. “It is imperative to clarify how such a situation arose. We insist on that,” the chancellor added, wishing Navalny a speedy recovery.
Macron, for his part, expressed concern regarding Navalny's hospitalization and confirmed the readiness to provide support to him and his family.
It is noteworthy that on Thursday morning, Navalny's press secretary Kira Yarmysh reported that a flight from Tomsk to Moscow had made an emergency landing in Omsk due to the severe deterioration of the opposition politician's health. He was transported unconscious to the intensive care unit and connected to a ventilator.
Earlier, Navalny's secretary suggested that he might have been poisoned. According to her, Navalny had only drunk tea before the flight. Doctors have managed to stabilize Navalny's condition. They have ruled out coronavirus, heart attack, and stroke for the comatose Navalny.
