EU Could Mediate Dialogue Between Two Sides in Belarus: Macron

The leaders of Germany and France discussed the escalation of the political crisis in Belarus at President Emmanuel Macron's summer residence in Côte d’Azur. Following a two-hour meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Macron announced at a press conference that the European Union could act as a mediator in the dialogue between parties in Belarus.

Macron stated that the Belarusian people should find their own solution, but Brussels is ready to assist, emphasizing that Russia should be included in the dialogue. According to him, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has been reluctant to accept the suggestion for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to take on the role of mediator. He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded positively to the proposal concerning OSCE's involvement, as reported by Reuters.
