Libya's Government of National Accord Signs Military Cooperation Agreement with Turkey and Qatar
The Government of National Accord of Libya has reached an agreement on a trilateral military cooperation agreement with Turkey and Qatar aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Libyan armed forces, according to aa.com.tr.
The source elaborates that the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Government of National Accord, Salah al-Din al-Nimroush, announced that Ankara and Doha will establish facilities in Libya for military training and consultation.
The official added that within the framework of the agreement, Turkey and Qatar will send advisors and military personnel to Libya.
It was previously reported that trilateral negotiations took place in Tripoli involving Turkey's Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar, his Qatari counterpart Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, and the head of Libya's Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj.
Earlier, Hulusi Akar had held bilateral talks with Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah and Fayez al-Sarraj.
It is important to recall that since the overthrow and assassination of Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the country has virtually ceased to function as a unified state. Currently, the country is under a dual power structure. In the east, the parliament elected by the people holds power, while in the west and the capital Tripoli, the Government of National Accord has been established with the support of the UN and the EU. The authorities in the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and collaborate with the army of Khalifa Haftar.
