The Issue is Not Lake Sevan, but the Eastern Mediterranean: Turkey's Response to Armenia's MFA

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy has responded to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement supporting Greece and Cyprus in the context of developments in the eastern Mediterranean, as reported by ermenihaber.am.

In the official statement posted on Turkey's Foreign Ministry website, it is specifically stated: “We see that Armenia, which aspires to express an opinion on the Eastern Mediterranean, is mistaken about the geography of the world and its place in that geography. The issue here is not about Lake Sevan, but about the Eastern Mediterranean.”

Aksoy, recalling recent statements from Armenia's leadership regarding the Sevres Treaty, described Armenia’s opinion on the Eastern Mediterranean as an “exceeding and irresponsible example.”

“The fact that a landlocked Armenia, following the UAE and France, believes it has the right to speak in the region shows the extent of the anti-Turkish conspiracy that they wish to form,” said Aksoy.

He also noted that Turkey will continue to resolutely defend its and the rights of Turkish Cypriots in the Eastern Mediterranean, asserting that no alliance has the strength to impede this. In his opinion, those who believe otherwise have not learned lessons from history.

“On this occasion, I want to remind you that we stand by our fraternal Azerbaijan with all our capabilities,” Aksoy concluded.
