EU Must Continue Supporting Peaceful Protests in Belarus, Macron Says

The European Union must continue to support the peaceful protests taking place in Belarus, stated French President Emmanuel Macron, as reported by Reuters.

“The EU must continue to unite forces in support of the hundreds of thousands of Belarusians who are peacefully advocating for the preservation of their rights, freedom, and independence,” Macron wrote on Twitter.

Since the presidential elections held on August 9, protests have been ongoing in Belarus, with participants expressing their dissatisfaction with the election results, which declared incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko the winner.

Official figures indicate that over 6,700 people were arrested in the initial days of the protests. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, hundreds have been injured during the unrest, including more than 120 law enforcement personnel, and one protester has lost their life.
