Belarusian Government Resigns
Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko has ordered the resignation of the government in front of the re-elected President Alexander Lukashenko following the presidential elections held on August 9, as reported by Sputnik Belarus.
At the same time, Lukashenko has signed a decree stating that the current composition of the government will continue its work until a new composition is approved. He had previously indicated that the government would not change after the elections.
In the presidential elections held on August 9 in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner with more than 80 percent of the votes, while the opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya garnered only 10.12 percent of the votes. Since the day of the elections, protests have continued, with participants expressing their dissatisfaction with the election results.
According to official data, more than 6,700 people were arrested in the first days following the elections. The republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that hundreds of people were injured during the unrest, including more than 120 law enforcement officers, and one protester has died.
