Aliyev Recall Ambassadors of Azerbaijan in Georgia and Serbia
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has recalled the ambassador of Azerbaijan in Georgia, Dursun Hasanov, and appointed Faik Guliyev as the new ambassador, reports minval.az.
It is noted that Guliyev has been removed from his position as deputy head of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora.
According to the source, Aliyev has also ordered Eldar Hasanov to be dismissed from his position as ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is worth mentioning that Hasanov was arrested last week by Azerbaijani special services on suspicion of embezzling large sums of budgetary funds.
“Eldar Hasanov, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been arrested. He is accused of the misappropriation of large sums of budgetary funds, embezzlement, and other legal violations. He has been arrested as a suspect within the framework of the investigation. The criminal case is under investigation,” the country's security service stated in a press release.
According to the Turan agency, Hasanov is a former chief prosecutor of Azerbaijan. Earlier, Azerbaijani media reported that arrests of high-ranking officials were expected in Azerbaijan. The investigation has uncovered financial violations in both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in various Azerbaijani embassies, consulates, and permanent representations abroad.
