Why is Baghramyan Street being asphalted if it was renovated 2 years ago? Yerevan Mayor's spokesman explains

“I am forced to make this post because I saw questions from several respected friends asking, 'Why is Baghramyan being asphalted if it was renovated two years ago?'” wrote Hakob Karapetyan, spokesman for the Mayor of Yerevan, on Facebook.

“Firstly, the last renovation of this section of the street was in 2012. Prior to that, it was fundamentally renovated in the 2000s with funds from the Lincy Foundation. The asphalt surface was worn out and had many cracks. The first three photos and the video demonstrate this. The road surface, especially in central streets of the capital, does not necessarily have to be in disrepair, create waves, and be filled with potholes for the experts to see a need for renovation. It is less costly for the community to grind the worn top layer of the asphalt and lay a new one than to wait until the road collapses and requires a fundamental overhaul, especially since current technology allows for this possibility.

Incidentally, work in this area, as in others, is done as quickly as possible and mainly during nighttime hours to minimize disruption to traffic.”
