Focus on Problematic Topics in Modern World in Armenian History Curriculum for High School, says Ministry of Education
The study of the subject 'Armenian History' aims to shape a national identity, cultivating a state-oriented mindset that emphasizes the role of the Armenian people and Armenian statehood in the context of world history. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
Each nation’s history is its path, its biography, and its memory, encompassing the spiritual and material values created over centuries. The study of history serves as a foundation for the future activities of each citizen, society, and state. Through understanding Armenian history, individuals develop national self-awareness and critical thinking, becoming responsible citizens with their own perspectives and values.
In the framework of the Armenian history curriculum, students in high school will explore the millennia-old Armenian civilization, its emergence and development patterns, achievements, values created, and universal accomplishments, as well as the difficulties and losses faced by the Armenian people along the way.
The curriculum for the 'Armenian History' subject in general secondary school is based on a linear model, preserving the principle of chronological sequence. In high school, the focus in the curriculum will be on studying problematic topics relevant to the modern world, highlighting their causal connections and employing critical analysis methods.
These principles of historical research will promote comprehensive analysis by students of historical events and figures (not just the examination of political and economic elites), which will contribute to the development of individuals with broad horizons and critical thinking skills.
The curriculum is built around four main concepts: State, Identity, Culture, and Coexistence.
