A Photo Depicting the Alleged Moment of the Protester’s Death in Minsk Has Been Released

A frame from a video has been released online, which, according to the author of the footage, Mstislav Chernov, depicts Alexander Taraykovsky, the protester who died in Minsk on August 10.

As reported by РИА Новости, the frame was published by the Associated Press. It is impossible to deduce from the photograph what caused the man's death. According to the Associated Press, the deceased man's girlfriend expressed the opinion that he was shot by the police.

Taraykovsky's relatives do not believe the official version, which states that he died after a homemade explosive device he was preparing to throw at the police exploded in his hand.

It is worth noting that Taraykovsky's funeral took place today, August 15. In his memory, a massive rally is being held in Minsk.

Mass protests in Belarus began a week ago following the presidential elections, which dissatisfied citizens and opposition members took to the streets to express their discontent. According to the election results, the incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner with over 80 percent of the votes.
