Romanos Petrosyan Visits the State Institution Led by Gagik Surenyans
The Minister of Environment, Romanos Petrosyan, shared on his Facebook page: “I made a working visit to the State Institution ‘Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center’ of the Ministry of Environment. A meeting and substantive discussion took place with the leadership and heads of departments of the institution. I familiarized myself with the center's activities and the existing issues. We noted that there are numerous accumulated problems, ranging from improvements in building conditions and changes in management culture to the need for technical re-equipment, staff retraining, and the introduction of innovative tools for more effective professional activities.
We discussed current programs, as well as the prospects for developing and implementing joint programs with international organizations. Speaking about personnel policies, I once again assured that in the post-revolutionary reality, no competition is announced for any vacant position for a specific individual; all vacant positions should be filled by competent, knowledgeable, and qualified specialists, while the best specialists at the lower levels should be given opportunities for advancement and self-expression.
The activities of the institutions under the Ministry of Environment must be based exclusively on the interests of the Republic of Armenia and the enhancement of the role and political weight of the respective institution in the state governance system. This is only possible through proper sector management, decisive decision-making, and a turnaround approach.
As I have urged during my meetings in previous institutions, today I called on my colleagues to clearly articulate the issues, inventory them, prioritize them, and elevate them through institutional and personal working channels. In the short-term visible future, our main task is to address the urgent problems while ensuring the prerequisites for the sustainable development of the institution.
I called for cooperation, from the junior specialist to the head of the department, to unite in implementing reforms in line with our vision for the sector. Deep reform processes must start without delay in all sub-sectors of the environment.
