Lithuanian President Questions Legitimacy of Belarusian Leader Lukashenko
The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, has stated that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko cannot be considered a legitimate leader of the state. According to RIA Novosti, Nausėda previously proposed the creation of a national council in Belarus for dialogue between society and authorities, as well as the cessation of force against the people and the release of detainees.
Nausėda also mentioned that the imposition of sanctions against Belarus is 'possible,' but he emphasized that such a decision could 'negatively affect the Belarusian people.'
