Russian Union of Journalists Files Complaint Against Belarusian Authorities for Violence Against Media Representatives

The Russian Union of Journalists has lodged a complaint with the Belarusian authorities regarding the actions of security forces towards media representatives. This was stated in a declaration published by the Union.

“According to eyewitnesses, Belarusian police and special forces are using exceptional brutality against journalists. They beat journalists, damage expensive equipment, and seize personal belongings. The Union considers the actions of the Belarusian authorities to be absolutely unacceptable and demands an immediate cessation of violence against media representatives,” the declaration reads.

It should be noted that the situation in Belarus has remained tense following the presidential elections. Protests against the election results have led to clashes for three consecutive nights. Over 250 individuals have ended up in hospitals following the demonstrations, and more than 6,000 protesters have been arrested. Meanwhile, opposition candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has left the country, calling for an end to the protests.
