Details from the Closed Meeting of the 'My Step' Faction
The 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that details have emerged about the closed meeting of the 'My Step' faction of the National Assembly that took place yesterday. The main topic of discussion was again the candidates for the Constitutional Court and the voting on them.
According to our information, during the three-and-a-half-hour closed session, the deputies focused more this time on the candidate proposed by the General Assembly of Judges, Yervand Khundkaryan, gathering mainly to understand what positions they hold regarding him. The thing is, the candidates proposed by the government, Vahram Avetisyan, and the candidate put forward by President Armen Sarkissian, Arthur Vagharshyan, had already been addressed by the deputies, and it was clear that some of them were decidedly against them.
While the approach to these two candidates is not entirely unequivocal and there are deputies who oppose them, the deputies seem more positively inclined towards Yervand Khundkaryan's candidacy, with fewer opposing opinions expressed. Of course, there have been views that the President of the Cassation Court should not become a member of the Constitutional Court, but in general, the opinions have been positive.
It has also been decided within the faction that a final decision will be made after a meeting with Khundkaryan, which will take place in the coming days. It should be noted that the faction members have also been informed that additional faction meetings will be held in the coming days, and a special meeting of the National Assembly is expected to convene tomorrow, during which the extension of the state of emergency for another month will be discussed for the last time. Moreover, the newly appointed members of the Constitutional Court will be elected by the end of this month through extraordinary meetings.
