Call to Halt Attacks on Any Company
The Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia has issued a statement calling for an end to attacks on any company.
“Dear compatriots, recently, the actions of organizations and movements against companies in the mining sector, which disrupt their activities, have become particularly apparent and concerning under various pretexts, including illegal acts. Such actions often contribute to the degradation of the social and economic role of the sector in the eyes of society, and lead to statements and even falsehoods aimed at ignoring the considerable role of the sector in the economic foundation of the state.
We do not doubt the sincere motivations of those individuals concerned about the fate of the country. However, some choose as their guiding principle the dissemination of false and unverified information about this or that company in the sector, which unlawfully obstructs the work of conscientious users of subsoil resources operating within the law. Category demands are imposed on the specific collective and the government, which pose obvious threats to the future of the country's economy.
We are doing our daily work to support the development and stabilization of the country, and the welfare of thousands of families. As to whether there are elements harmful to nature and the environment in our activities, let the legitimate state structures and the professional community determine that.
It is unacceptable to obstruct the activities of any user of subsoil resources on behalf of the people by any group. We call on everyone to stop such attacks on any company engaged in economic activities, which can never be beneficial to either society or, even more so, to the state.
It is necessary to engage in active and constructive dialogue with the management system and appropriate professional structures to arrive at common conclusions that will not disrupt the economic stability of the country or harm the interests of citizens who earn their daily bread. We are ready to participate and assist in any discussions on these topics with our professional and technical capacity,” the statement reads.
