Authorities Have Lost: Former Corrupt Officials Know They Won't Be Imprisoned for Now, Says Daniel Ioannisyan
Daniel Ioannisyan, founder and program coordinator of the 'Qualified Citizens' Union' NGO, and a member of the Public Council, wrote on his Facebook page:
“Yesterday, the court refused to arrest Robert Nazaryan based on the request of the National Security Service. All former corrupt officials in Armenia already know that they have indulgence from the courts... They know they won’t be imprisoned for now. Former corrupt officials are no longer interested in returning the plundered assets or cooperating with the investigations to uncover bigger fish.
This is a result of the fact that the majority of the judicial system serves the interests of the former corrupt authorities and tries to obstruct the fight against corruption (these judges want to remain judges in a corrupt country). And this, in turn, is a result of the authorities’ failure (more precisely, they promised and did not fulfill) in vetting the judges.”
