Students Accepted to Foreign Universities Unable to Depart as Armenia Is on Emergency Status List, Marukyan

A large number of students are approaching us and expressing concerns about their educational rights due to the state of emergency and the ineffectiveness of the fight against the pandemic. This was noted by Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia party, in a recent Facebook post. He specifically stated:

“Students who have been accepted to foreign universities, including prestigious ones, are currently unable to obtain visas and cannot travel to those countries because Armenia is classified as a country under a state of emergency. Remote education in our universities has already shown and continues to demonstrate its ineffectiveness, also due to the fact that we were unprepared both technically and organizationally, as well as psychologically. As a result, there are widespread complaints from both students and educators.”

Ultimately, in order not to add to the numerous existing issues in the educational sector, it is necessary to reopen educational institutions, implement strict anti-epidemic rules for the learning process, and avoid jeopardizing the already precarious state of the education system,” the deputy wrote.
